Bob Carlson started playing guitar in middle school but he didn’t get his first ukulele until college, when he found a broken baritone ukulele in the dumpster behind his dorm. He fixed it up, put on some strings, and you might say the rest is history. Over the years he’s loved playing the uke with his family on road trips and camp outs, and it’s always been close at hand in the living room for an impromptu serenade.
About 10 years ago he joined a ukulele ‘’meetup’’ band, and more recently has been teaching group community ed. classes as a volunteer.
Last year Bob retired from a 40-year career as a free-lance science writer, primarily writing about medicine for magazines and newspapers, and turned his ukulele hobby into a second, mini-career. Now he teaches ukulele to private students as well as the group classes.
Listen, as he tries to teach Sonny how to play his "uke".
